The YZF-R1M is Yamaha’s most advanced production bike, and its sophisticated technology enables every racer and track rider to discover their true potential.

For reduced lap times there’s an upgraded Quickshift System (QSS) giving seamless upshifting and downshifting. The revised Electronic Racing Suspension (ERS) automatically adjusts damping to give higher levels of braking, acceleration and cornering control – and a new interface makes selecting modes easier.

The new ECU works with the QSS and improved lift control system (LIF) to allow harder acceleration – and the fairing’s restyled graphics focus on its lightweight carbon structure.




Revised Electronic Racing
Suspension (ERS)

The revised Electronic Racing Suspension (ERS) is the most sophisticated system ever developed by Öhlins for a production motorcycle. Its advanced new software gives a higher degree of braking, acceleration and cornering support with improved front-end feel – and a new interface makes suspension set-up quick and easy.

Communication Control
Unit (CCU)

The Communication Control Unit (CCU) has a data logging function that allows you to record a wide range of running data, including lap times, speed, throttle position, GPS tracking, lean angle and more. It can also be used to communicate with the Yamaha Ride Control (YRC) system when viewing, downloading or changing the running modes.

Lightweight carbon fairing

One of the many exclusive features on the YZF-R1M is its carbon fairing, and in order to underline the bike's exclusivity, the graphics have been revised for 2018 so that more of this ultra-light material is visible on the fairing panels.

YZR-M1 derived 200 hp
cross plane engine

The YZF-R1M is powered by a 998 cc, crossplane, 4 cylinder, 4-valve engine that develops 200 hp - without ram air pressurisation. Derived from our winning YZR-M1 MotoGP bike, its crossplane crankshaft gives an uneven 270° - 180° - 90° - 180° firing sequence for high levels of linear torque.

6-axis Inertial
Measurement Unit (IMU)

The highly sophisticated 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) delivers precise running data to the new ECU – which activates the upgraded lift control system (LIF) as well as the MotoGP-derived banking angle sensitive rear wheel Slide Control System (SCS) and Traction Control System (TCS) for greater control and reduced lap times.

Improved Quick Shift
System (QSS)

A new higher specification Quick shift System (QSS) offers clutchless upshifting and downshifting that helps to maintain chassis stability for faster lap times, and also reduces the physical and mental input required by the rider. Using the Yamaha Ride Control (YRC) function, YZF-R1M riders can also select their preferred QSS mode.

ABS with Unified
Brake System

The YZF-R1M's dual 320 mm front discs and monoblock callipers - as well as the 220 mm rear disc - are equipped with a sophisticated banking sensitive ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) as well as Yamaha's Unified Brake System that enables the rider to achieve high levels of controllability in different circuit or road situations.

Compact Deltabox

The aluminium Deltabox frame features a long upward-truss type swingarm and magnesium rear frame, underlining the YZF-R1M's strong M1 race bike heritage. The short 1405mm wheelbase chassis and the low wet weight of just 200 kg give the YZF-R1M a high level of agility and responsiveness for outstanding race and track performance.

The YZF-R1M's 17-inch wheels are manufactured from magnesium in order to minimise unsprung weight for responsive suspension performance – and the beautifully crafted 17-litre fuel tank is made from aluminium.

New ECU mapping and improved
Lift Control (LIF)

The YZF-R1M benefits from revised ECU mapping that enables the use of the new downshift mode on the Quick shift System. LIF has also been upgraded to ensure improved control under acceleration, enabling you to concentrate fully on the track ahead, without the distraction created by unwanted front-end lift.

Thin Film Transistor (TFT)
LCD instrument panel

The YZF-R1M's instrument panel is one of the most sophisticated units fitted to any motorcycle and features a Thin Film Transistor (TFT) LCD panel. The multi-function display shows a wide range of data is shown in full colour, making all of the information easy to understand.
